OVERVIEW
An arm lift is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess, sagging skin from the upper arms and restore a firmer, more youthful appearance. Due to natural ageing processes, loss of skin elasticity, or significant weight loss, skin on the upper arms may become loose and flabby — often referred to as “bingo wings.”
Since such sagging skin cannot be improved through regular exercise or diet alone, an arm lift can provide dramatic improvement. The procedure removes excess skin and tightens the underlying tissue, resulting in more toned, defined arms and enhanced body confidence.
Incisions are strategically placed along the upper arm and undersurface, typically running from armpit to elbow, with careful placement to minimise visible scarring.
Liposuction may be used in conjunction with the arm lift to enhance results and achieve optimal arm contouring and definition.
Candidacy
An arm lift can be an ideal solution for individuals experiencing any of the following:
Loose, flabby upper arm skin (“bingo wings”) caused by ageing, weight loss, or loss of skin elasticity that resists diet and exercise.
Self-consciousness about arm appearance that leads to wearing long sleeves or tops even in warm weather to cover problem areas.
Loss of definition in the upper arms caused by excess, loose skin that makes arms appear undefined or drooping.
Excess skin remaining after significant weight loss that cannot be tightened through non-surgical methods or further weight management.
Aftercare Instructions
To ensure the best results and minimize any potential side effects, please follow these important aftercare guidelines:
Avoid massaging the treated area. This could cause the product to migrate to unintended areas.
Do not wash your face or apply makeup until the next day following treatment.
Avoid alcohol consumption on the day of your treatment. This can increase bruising and inflammation.
Activate the injected muscles (such as frown lines) by frowning 3–4 times every 15 minutes for the first 3 hours to help the treatment settle.
Do not lie flat for at least 6 hours after the injections. Maintain an upright position to allow the product to settle properly and achieve optimal results.
The Surgical Process
An arm lift is performed under general anaesthesia and typically requires a 1 night hospital stay for monitoring and initial recovery support.
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia with close monitoring throughout. Strategic incisions are made along the upper arm and undersurface, typically from armpit to elbow, placed to minimise visible scarring.
Excess skin is separated from the underlying muscle and fat, then removed to create optimal arm contour. The remaining skin is tightened and sutured back together for a lifted, defined appearance.
Liposuction may be performed in conjunction with the arm lift to enhance contouring and achieve optimal definition and arm shape based on individual anatomy.
Pain management and aftercare instructions will be provided. Time off work for rest and recovery is important. The operated areas will feel swollen and tight for 2–3 weeks, so recovery time and activity limitations are essential.
Recovery Guide
Recovery from an arm lift requires time and care. Following your surgeon’s aftercare instructions carefully is essential for optimal healing and results.
Swelling & Tightness
The operated areas will feel swollen and tight for 2–3 weeks post-surgery. Time off work during this period is advised to rest and allow proper healing.
Bruising Duration
Bruising may last for 2–3 weeks post-surgery, during which time rest and recuperation help support the healing process and minimise complications.
Return to Work
Most patients can return to work and light activities after 4–6 weeks. Strenuous activities and exercise should be avoided until your surgeon gives clearance.
Rest and activity limitation are critical during the initial recovery phase to ensure proper wound healing and optimal results. Your surgeon will provide detailed aftercare instructions and monitor your progress with follow-up appointments.
Long-Term Outlook
An arm lift delivers long-lasting results, with the removed excess skin not returning. The tightening and contouring of the arms creates a permanently improved appearance with enhanced definition and firmness that persists for many years.
For many patients, results remain excellent long-term. However, significant weight gain in the future could affect arm appearance. Maintaining a stable, healthy weight after surgery helps ensure your improved arm contour and toned appearance are enjoyed for years to come.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle after the procedure ensures your improved arm contour remains optimal long-term. Regular exercise and a balanced diet will help you enjoy your more toned, defined arms indefinitely.
