Nose Re-Shaping

nose-re-shapingRhinoplasty or Septo-Rhinoplasty, the procedure is to re-shape the nose and also to increase or decrease the size of the nose. It is also to carried out to alter the appearance of the nose tip, bridge and nostrils. A rhinoplasty may be chosen for many reasons such as dislike of the size or shape due to inherited characteristics or to restore a flattened nose after an injury. As the nose is centrally positioned, it is considered by many people to be a focal point. If someone is unhappy with the size or outline of their nose, they may wish to alter it to make them less self-conscious or to help self-esteem. It is not recommended until after the age of sixteen, due to continual growth until this age.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A rhinoplasty is normally carried out under general anaesthetic and usually requires an overnight stay in hospital. You can expect some pain, swelling and bruising around your eyes for a approximately 3 weeks, and for the first couple of days some minimal bleeding too. A splint is worn to protect the nose until the swelling has settled down, swelling and numbness may be encountered for several months. Any activities should be avoided which risk the nose being knocked or injured for six weeks post operatively and a period of recuperation is also required for approximately 2-3 weeks, depending on the extent of your operation.
