Eye Bag Removal

Natural beauty woman portraitThis procedure is to reduce eyelid bags and also removes fat and the appropriate amount of surplus skin from around the eye due to loss of elasticity. Due to ageing, the skin may develop deep creases on the lower lids, loose folds on the upper lids, and the muscles may become slack and thickened causing fat to bulge in the form of eye bags. Even prior to skin changes taking place, eye bags can occur due to thyroid disease.

A more youthful look can be achieved with this operation, and by removing the excess skin and fat, the eyes may appear more open and alert, including less morning swelling. Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper, lower and both eyelids.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Upper eyelid surgery maybe carried out under a local or general anaesthetic as a day case. Lower eyelid surgery is carried out under a general anaesthetic and requires a 1 night stay in hospital. You will need to sleep on few extra pillows for three days after surgery in order to minimise swelling, and a cold compress on discharge will be given to you with the appropriate instructions. You will have stitches and paper strips in place post operatively to support the eyelids. The removal of these stitches is carried between 5-7 days. There will be bruising of the skin for an period of 2-3 weeks following this surgery and on some occasions you may get a red watery eye. Further information will be given during the consultation.
